The Chicago College of Performing Arts/Roosevelt University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach MUHL 251 - World Vernacular Artistry, to undergraduate students in the Interdisciplinary Conservatory as part of the College’s Core Studies curriculum for the upcoming fall semester, 8/26/24 to 12/14/24. This course will explore global vernacular artistry through primarily ethnographical methodologies focused on engaging with Chicago-area communities, including various diasporas.

This class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Job Duties:

  • Delivery of course material, including creating assignments and evaluation of students’ work.
  • Clear and timely communication.
  • Timely submission of all grades.
  • Consistent usage of Roosevelt University email address (to be assigned upon onboarding).
  • Submission of a syllabus each semester (university-mandated template will be provided) documenting all class policies, expectations, procedures, and grading criteria.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master’s degree in Music or a related field.
  • University or college level teaching experience.

Years of Experience Required: 1-3

Required Education: Masters Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in music with a focus in ethnomusicology or a related area.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions: Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds). May be exposed to loud noise from instrument and voice practice rooms on-site.
