Overview

The Freelance Multimedia Specialist will be responsible for developing impactful, creative copy across all multimedia platforms for the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS), including, but not limited to, email marketing, social media, website landing pages and other digital channels. This individual will report to the DZS Communications Manager and generate content that is consistent with the DZS’s brand, style and voice.

This is a flexible freelance position requiring approximately 10 hours per week and a commitment of six (6) months to start, with the potential for long-term collaboration. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create engaging, on-brand copy for email campaigns, social media posts, landing pages, video scripts and other marketing materials, as assigned by the DZS Marcom team.
  2. Collaborate closely with the Communications Manager to align all content with the established strategy and brand voice.
  3. Optimize copy for SEO and ensure best practices are applied across digital platforms.
  4. Revise and adapt content as needed based on feedback from the Communications Manager and other stakeholders.
  5. Manage deadlines and maintain a consistent workflow to support ongoing campaigns and initiatives.
  6. Stay informed on current trends in digital marketing and content creation to keep materials fresh and relevant.

Qualifications

  1. Exceptional writing skills across a variety of multimedia platforms.
  2. Prior experience as a journalist, copywriter or content creator.
  3. Strong portfolio showcasing diverse projects, especially in email marketing, social media and web content.
  4. Ability to write in a variety of tones and styles, for various audiences, while maintaining consistency with an established brand voice.
  5. Familiarity with SEO principles and digital marketing best practices.
  6. Highly organized with strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  7. Comfortable working collaboratively with a team while also managing independent projects.
