Position Purpose:

To work part time providing private or semi-private music instruction to students on a variety of instruments. To provide band coaching to small rock/pop ensembles for the purposes of live performance and recordings. To provide music school administrative support, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To provide instruction to music students in a private or semi-private lesson format using a proprietary curriculum based on method books and specific methodology and arrangements created for Bach to Rock Music Schools.
2. To instruct students in techniques needed to play in small groups.
3. To direct small groups in playing, performing and recording original and cover songs.
4. To support private student placement in pop/rock ensembles in collaboration with the School Director staff.
5. Move, set up and break down equipment at the school and school events.
6. Assist B2R management with customer service and prospect phone calls when needed.
7. Perform a variety of the school maintenance functions (hang posters and frames on walls, install static clings on windows, etc.) when needed.
8. Assist with moving furniture, equipment and materials.
9. Assist in basic repair of minor site equipment and instruments.

Knowledge and Abilities:

1. Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts to students.
2. Must play a musical instrument. Multi-instrumentalists are strongly preferred.
3. Must demonstrate the ability to run basic sound equipment.
4. Must be able to receive constructive feedback on teaching techniques and apply the feedback to new teaching situations and environments.
5. Must be able to be physically present at B2R for scheduled lessons and administrative responsibilities.
6. Advanced knowledge of music theory and technique relevant to primary instruments.
7. Effective time management and organizational skills.
8. Ability to operate basic office equipment, i.e. telephones, photocopiers and computers.
9. Ability to interact effectively with the public.
10. Ability to work effectively with B2R staff and management.
11. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
12. Ability to adapt to change in the workplace.
13. Ability to pass a background check.

Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure:

1. Teaching certificate and or degrees in music preferred; those who are currently enrolled in a music degree program will also be considered.
2. Experience in the subject area may be substituted for degree or licensure.
3. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Language Skills:

1. Must be proficient in English speaking and writing skills.
2. Additional language(s) are a plus.

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to sit, stand, walk, travel up and down stairs, crouch, stoop and reach.
2. Ability to lift and move the equipment typically associated with B2R’s day-to-day operation, e.g., amplifiers, keyboards, recording equipment, light furniture, etc.

Work Environment:

1. Basic office environment.
2. Music studio.
3. Music event venues in the metro area around the school.
