Description

Tewksbury Hospital, part of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Music Therapist Lead. You will play an essential part in evaluating patient/client needs and devising personalized treatment plans to facilitate their habilitation or rehabilitation in this role. Your responsibilities will include conducting individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing diverse therapeutic techniques to achieve therapeutic objectives. Collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams, you will ensure seamless coordination of music therapy activities within overall treatment programs.

In addition to providing direct therapy, you will also take on leadership responsibilities by supervising and training staff, reviewing treatment plans, and maintaining accurate records. Your expertise in music therapy will be instrumental in teaching instrumental and/or vocal music tailored to individual needs, fostering a supportive and empowering environment for clients. Through your dedication to continuous learning and professional development, you will stay abreast of advancements in the field, further enhancing the quality of care provided. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

1. Design and execute tailored treatment plans, selecting appropriate interventions to meet therapeutic goals effectively.
2. Lead, co-facilitate, or conduct group and individual therapy sessions as part of interdisciplinary teams.
3. Apply diverse individual and group therapy techniques in music therapy sessions with patients/clients.
4. Coordinate music therapy interventions with other healthcare disciplines and hospital activities to optimize patient treatment outcomes.
5. Instruct individuals or groups in instrumental and/or vocal music, including instrument selection and adaptation to meet treatment objectives according to clients’ capabilities.
6. Generate detailed reports and data on treatment plans and assessment outcomes to evaluate the efficacy of music therapy interventions.
7. Develop and implement on-the-job training programs for music therapy personnel, interns, and students to enhance service delivery quality.
8. Oversee and endorse music therapy treatment plans drafted by subordinate staff, while also supervising their work assignments, conducting performance evaluations, and identifying training requirements for professional growth.
9. Fulfill additional responsibilities such as maintaining records, advising colleagues, procuring equipment and supplies, participating in training programs, and staying updated on industry advancements.

Required Qualifications:

1. Comprehensive understanding of music therapy theories, principles, and practices, encompassing both vocal and instrumental music.
2. Proficiency in music theory and terminology, including ear training, improvisation, composition, orchestration, conducting, and music history, relevant to music therapy applications.
3. Expertise in treatment planning, utilizing therapeutic music activities, creative movement, improvisation techniques, and adapted equipment, tailored for patients/clients in music therapy programs.
4. In-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and psychology, as applied within the context of music therapy.
5. Understanding of the psychology of music and its application in therapeutic settings.
6. Familiarity with various musical instruments and devices used in music therapy sessions, along with their types and applications.
7. Mastery of techniques and methods for working with clients with emotional, physical, or developmental disabilities.
8. Proficient skill in using musical instruments and devices essential for effective music therapy sessions.
9. Demonstrated ability to sing, play guitar, and piano proficiently to facilitate therapeutic interventions.
10. Competency in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting music therapy data to draw conclusions and provide appropriate recommendations, contributing to evidence-based practice.
