Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Mandatory Qualifications:
  2. Minimum degree: Terminal Degree required (Ph.D., Ed.D., or D.M.A.). ABO will be considered.
  3. At least 3 years of successful K-12 teaching.
  4. Preferred Qualifications:
  5. Evidence of effective university teaching.
  6. For general music applicants, certifications, or specialization in an elementary/general music pedagogy (Orff, Kodaly, Eurythmics, MLT, etc.).
  7. For instrumental or choral applicants, secondary level experience.
  8. Record of, or potential for, research and scholarly contributions to the music education field.

Job Concepts:

Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate level music education courses as well as methods courses focused on the candidate’s area of expertise (e.g., instrumental; elementary/general; choral). The successful candidate will teach traditional, contemporary, and emerging music education approaches, and be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access in music learning. An innovative thinker and pedagogue who designs curricula in response to the evolving needs of contemporary students is preferred.

In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will advise undergraduate and graduate music education students, work collaboratively with the School of Education in the supervision of student teacher residents and undergraduate field experiences, participate meaningfully in local in-service teacher workshops and trainings, develop working relationships with regional music educators, and conduct other duties as assigned according to the candidate's qualifications and the program needs. University service through committee work and administrative support of the music education program is expected. The successful candidate will develop meaningful working relationships with students, faculty, and staff in the School of Creative and Performing Arts, the College of Education and Human Development, and other university entities. The candidate will engage in recruitment activities to forge relationships with potential and incoming students.
