POSITION/RANK: Assistant Professor of Music Theory

GENERAL INFO: The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in music theory, intended to begin August 15, 2025. Salary will be commensurate with credentials. Initial appointment is three years, after which the faculty member is eligible for reappointment. The selected candidate will assist in reshaping the undergraduate theory core to meet the needs of today’s students.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory
  2. Participate in reshaping the undergraduate core curriculum to offer breadth in a variety of specialized areas
  3. Develop original courses in the candidate’s field of specialization
  4. Maintain an active program of research and scholarly publication
  5. Advise student research, including independent studies and doctoral dissertations, in areas appropriate to candidate’s expertise
  6. Serve the college and university community through activities such as committee membership, academic advising, and mentorship of students

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. PhD in Music Theory or a related discipline
  2. Research expertise, as evidenced by (a) a doctoral dissertation or (b) at least one research publication or (c) at least one research presentation
  3. One academic year of collegiate teaching experience in Music Theory

SALARY: $67,000–$73,000, dependent on the candidate's experience
