Department Summary:

As the most-used service on campus, the UNT Libraries offer access to over 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. The Music Library supports the College of Music and the UNT community, providing outstanding collections of music-related resources.

Position Overview:

The UNT Libraries seeks an innovative thinker with strong people skills to plan, coordinate, create, and oversee the entry of high-quality metadata and digitization workflows for the UNT Music Library. Under the general supervision of the Head of Music Technical Services, the Coordinator will oversee the description of digital collections and digitization of physical collections, including hiring, training, and supervising student assistants.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Set direction and maintain standards for metadata creation for digitized and born-digital collections.
  2. Work with the College of Music to archive and make available concert programs and recordings.
  3. Train, supervise, and review student assistants working on metadata projects.
  4. Coordinate digitization efforts in collaboration with relevant staff.
  5. Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music; ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information sciences, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Relevant experience in a music library.
  • Facility with metadata-creation schemas and workflows.
  • Knowledge of digitization processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of major music reference sources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in music.
  • Basic familiarity with jazz.
  • Knowledge of digital preservation issues.
  • Familiarity with music cataloging standards.
  • Knowledge of copyright issues related to music.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment and familiarity with current technologies.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Record of contributions to the profession through publications or presentations.
