CBS News is seeking a hard-working and capable Social Media Associate Producer with a passion for news to join our team!

The AP will help us optimize the biggest stories of the day for publishing on social platforms. This will require a candidate with strong editorial judgment and enough social media expertise to recommend the best treatment for each of the various social platforms. They will need to produce and edit videos that will engage audiences on Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube – often using in-platform tools and features to render the text and graphics more authentic to the audiences we are trying to reach. The ideal candidate will have an eye for the most shareable nugget (quote, moment, etc.) from larger news events and episodes of broadcast shows, which can be broken out as separate stories and social posts; and the capability of producing that story in either text or video form, as the situation dictates.

Applicants should be proficient in the standard processes of social media sites, as proven by their active profiles. They will be able to write shareable language for captions and titles that is concise yet fully in context and in line with the CBS News brand. They will also have experience covering breaking news and be willing to work newsroom hours, which include nights, weekends, and holidays. The AP will coordinate the continued growth of the accounts they’re assigned, including but not limited to followers, video views, and engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

1. 1 to 3 years of social media or newsroom experience
2. Shown interest in true crime and current events, and the ability to write about a variety of topics in a strong, yet unbiased way
3. Deep familiarity with social media platforms, audiences, and best practices
4. Strong writing skills with a portfolio of published work
5. Strong producing and editing skills, as this position will be responsible for the production of multiple original social packages every day
6. Ability to quickly and accurately subtitle video for social, using both editing platforms and the text tools within TikTok and Instagram
7. Ability to work well with others under tight deadlines
8. Degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, or related field

Hiring Salary Range: $64,350.00 - $65,000.00

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program, and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
