The Assistant Program Director / On-air Host for Life 88.5, KJNW in Kansas City, a full-time position, will create and deliver remarkable content for both on-air and online that enhances the ministry of Life 88.5, while assisting the Program Director in providing and shaping the on-air programming and content of Life 88.5 to promote the mission and vision of Northwestern Media.

What will I do in this position?

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR (60%):

  • Assist the Program Director in the strategic execution of the sound of Life 88.5 to fulfill the mission of Northwestern Media.
  • Under the direction of the Program Director, assist in the scheduling and selection of music for airplay on Life 88.5, report weekly spins to industry trades and conduct weekly music research to refine station playlist as necessary.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of Engagement initiatives as assigned.
  • Prepare, develop, and maintain weekly air talent on-air schedule, including managing holidays and vacation times.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Home Office Support Services in order to execute content on digital/social platforms.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of successful on-air fundraisers as assigned.
  • Assist and serve with the Life 88.5 team at concerts and events as assigned.
  • Assign audio production and assist as needed, under the direction of the Program Director.
  • Create and submit quarterly report for FCC compliance.
  • Act as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by actively partnering with the University to disciple students and with Northwestern Media to lead people to Christ.

ON-AIR HOST (40%):

  • Host a weekday air shift and voice track a weekend air shift, preparing and delivering exceptional show content for use on air and digital platforms.
  • Meet regularly with Program Director and Network Coach to identify strengths and weaknesses and make necessary changes.
  • Be available to fill in on multiple day-parts as needed and troubleshoot voice-tracking issues.
  • Maintain online liner doc with weekly updates.
  • Demonstrate passion for the community by being friendly and welcoming to listeners at assigned community events.

What will it take to succeed in this position?

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous broadcasting, public speaking, or related experience required.
  • Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and uphold Northwestern’s mission.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact professionally.
  • Ability to plan and execute an entertaining air shift.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-starter with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of legal and technical aspects of broadcasting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout employment.

The work environment involves working for a suburban, Christian owned and operated radio station alongside those with a commitment to Jesus Christ and Northwestern's mission.

Compensation Range: $52,293 – $58,104
