Job Description

Accountant II is a key member of the finance team, responsible for performing intermediate to advanced accounting tasks to support the financial operations of a federally qualified health center (FQHC). This role ensures compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, federal grant requirements, and organizational policies, contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting. Assist with auditing and reconciliation of the Company retirement plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Accounting Manager (AM) in preparing Financial Statements by reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts, maintaining subsidiary schedules, ensuring accurate coding of revenue and expenses, managing grant accounting, and posting related journal entries. Provide actionable recommendations to enhance accuracy and efficiency in these processes.
  2. Ensure the precise and timely recording, analysis, and reconciliation of 401(k) plan contributions, including maintaining schedules for safe harbor and employee deferrals, while proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  3. Collaborate with the AM to prepare and submit federal, state, local, and other special tax returns, ensuring strict compliance with all applicable regulations, filing requirements, and deadlines.
  4. Support the annual 401(k) and organizational audits by preparing audit schedules, gathering necessary documentation, and addressing auditor inquiries. Compile and organize the annual 990 toolkit, ensuring completeness and data accuracy.
  5. Conduct monthly and quarterly general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting and ledger integrity. Prepare detailed monthly bank account reconciliations and address discrepancies promptly and effectively.
  6. Support internal and external audits by providing comprehensive documentation, reconciliations, and prompt responses to audit-related requests.
  7. Work collaboratively with the AM and accounting team to achieve departmental objectives, contributing insights and recommendations for process improvement and operational efficiency. Additionally, work collaboratively with the HR department regarding 401K and payroll inquiries.
  8. Provide exceptional customer service by delivering professional and timely responses to internal and external inquiries via telephone, email, fax, or in person.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and a proactive approach to supporting organizational goals and priorities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum 4 years of accounting experience required
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel
  • Ability to train and manage staff
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment
