Position Summary
Our Client Services department has the opportunity for an experienced Public Relations Specialist to join the firm. The Public Relations Specialist at Ogletree Deakins will serve a critical role on the firm’s Communications team. The person in this role is responsible for creating and executing public relations strategies to promote the firm and its people. They will handle media relations, developing and maintaining strong relationships with reporters and crafting proactive pitches. As a member of the Communications team, the Public Relations Specialist will ensure that messaging is consistent across all channels and that there is a multi-faceted approach to promoting the brand. The successful candidate must reside proximate to Atlanta, GA or New Orleans, LA and this position may be remote or hybrid.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement effective public relations strategies to enhance the firm’s reputation.
- Handle media requests quickly, efficiently, and with minimal supervision, and prepare attorneys for interviews.
- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts.
- Proactively research and develop media pitches for industry media, national media, and local media in markets where the firm has offices.
- Prepare press releases that are accurate and detailed with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with various practice groups and firm departments to promote the firm’s people and initiatives.
- Provide reporting and analytics on performance of various PR strategies.
- Assist in leading various research requests both from attorneys and within the Client Services department.
- Support the firm’s accolade program.
- Help with posting to the firm’s social media accounts (LinkedIn, Instagram, and X) as needed.
- Moderate travel. Assist at firm events when needed.
Requirements
- Requires a college degree, preferably in public relations, journalism, and/or communications.
- Candidates must be professional and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
- 4+ years of previous PR experience is required.
- InDesign and/or Photoshop and Canva experience a plus.
- Knowledge and use of media monitoring tools and programs is a plus.
- Proficient in all Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong media relations skills and a network of media contacts.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
