About the Hotel and Restaurant

The Radio Tower & Hotel is a 221-room hotel, mixed-use high rise, located at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in the Washington Heights area in Northern Manhattan. The property features flexible meeting space and a restaurant. The Hotel incorporates the unique look and feel of the Washington Heights neighborhood, catering to both the local Latin community and international travelers looking for affordable yet stylish rooms below the steep asking prices of downtown Manhattan hotels. This 22-story building combines hotel, retail, and office functions in vibrantly stacked blocks, reflecting the vivacious character of the neighborhood. Washington Heights is the 5th largest neighborhood in New York with a population of over 150,000 people, but it is currently served by just two hotels. The event space offers locals a space to host weddings and other parties with spectacular views from the adjacent rooftop terrace.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish a client base of individuals, organizations, associations, social, and/or corporate businesses through direct outside and inside sales efforts to secure business for the hotel & restaurant to ensure that rooms & catering revenue goals are met or exceeded.
  • Negotiate guest room rates, meeting room rental, function space, and/or hotel services within approved booking guidelines. Accurately produce and/or review all sales contracts, rate agreements, and/or banquet/catering event orders.
  • Uncover local partnerships that will enhance customer experience in the hotel and restaurant.
  • Detail, service, and execute all catering and sales/conference services functions, working closely with other hotel departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and collaborate with co-workers and key departmental contacts.
  • Disseminate sales-related information to other departments as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Follow up with guests regularly, at start, during, and after departure to ensure satisfaction and secure future bookings.
  • Monitor and ensure all functions are set up, refreshed, and broken down in compliance with scheduled times and departmental procedures in accordance with customer specifications. Ensure deficiencies are corrected by appropriate personnel.
  • Attend and represent the hotel at local tradeshows, industry mixers, events, and on-property hosted events.
  • Assist clients in menu planning, coordination of food, beverage, table arrangements, and decorations with the Banquet Department.
  • Arrange and conduct special events, site inspections, and off-site presentations for potential clients. Entertain clients in accordance with established company and hotel policies and guidelines.
  • Work with outside vendors and negotiate on behalf of the hotel to meet customer needs and the hotel’s operational ability.
  • Adhere to Brand standards and proficiently use sales tools, programs, and resources of Branded property.
  • Understand and work with team members of the local CVB, HB, CD, Chamber of Commerce, and other local lead-generating organizations.
  • Comfortable using sales tools such as STS/Proposal Path, Microsoft applications, LinkedIn, Zoom, 3rd Party Lead Generators, Microsoft Outlook, and hotel PMS systems.
  • Timely and accurate entry of data in the sales automation system to include weekly sales activities, booking details & booking traces.
  • Perform all sales activities vital to the role, including but not limited to: prospecting, site tours, outside calls, on-site entertainment, attendance at industry events after normal work hours if needed, hosted hotel customer events, and industry networking organizations.
  • Monitor and maximize meeting space availability, free sell guidelines, and suggested selling guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with guests, employees, and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the Brand, and the Company.
  • Meet or exceed assigned sales and catering sales revenue goals and KPIs.
  • Continually build a sales funnel to create demand and effectively drive and manage the sales cycle for key accounts to increase revenue.
  • Continually initiate innovative sales tactics to improve new client acquisition results and retain the existing customer base.
  • Prompt follow-up on leads/referrals.
  • Consistent level of customer interaction to show appreciation including entertainment, thank you gifts, personal notes, etc.
  • Proficient use of resources to research and identify new business opportunities, and networking to maximize room revenue to meet and/or exceed individual and team sales and revenue goals.
  • Timely and accurate entry of data in the sales automation system to include weekly sales activities, booking details, and booking traces.
  • Ability to conduct presentations to clients, corporate team, and ownership verbally and using the latest technology.
  • Participate in Fam Trips for meeting planners/companies.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
  • Perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
  • Highly self-motivated and passionate about sales and the hospitality industry.
  • Resilient and have an unflappable personality.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Patience and tact required to accommodate customer needs and, on occasion, resolve difficult situations.
  • Comply with and promote all company policies and procedures.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required.
  • AA degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, or equivalent experience in an independent hotel required.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in sales and catering sales, banquet management, or event sales or coordination.
  • Must be proficient with sales automation tools/resources, Microsoft applications, LinkedIn, Zoom, and 3rd Party Lead Generators.
  • Must have mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business dictates.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and efficient.
  • Experience in the local market is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of food, wines, and cocktails.
Essential Physical Abilities:
  • Frequently standing up or moving within and outside of the facility.
  • Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be flexible to work long, sometimes irregular hours.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to drive to visit local customers and attend events.
