ABSC is seeking a UI/UX Designer to support the CDAO. From machine learning software development to program and project management, the CDAO is looking for world-class talent driven to tackle tough challenges at the intersection of national security and cutting-edge AI technology. Work is hybrid, some work to be performed on-site in Northern Virginia. Top Secret security clearance is required.

The CDAO is the lead for all AI work within Department of Defense (DoD) and is responsible for transforming the department. The CDAO is responsible for strengthening and integrating data, artificial intelligence, and digital solutions in the DoD. The CDAO is building a strong foundation for data, analytic, and AI-enabled capabilities to be developed and fielded at scale.

Major Duties/Tasks:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support agile development using methodologies based on iterative development, requirements and solutions.
  • Translates/transforms user research information into actionable user interface requirements and workflows.
  • Produces high quality solutions through hybrid wireframe and visual designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps and prototypes.
  • Rapidly iterates on design prototypes and working applications that contribute to the design, development, and testing of AI/ML tools and delivery methods.
  • Develops mock-up solutions that can be implemented quickly.
  • Tests and validates usability by monitoring and reporting metrics, determining potential, leveraging research and analytics to drive product updates and improved user experience.
  • Applies the principles, methods and techniques of user-based design with an in-depth knowledge of complex computer-based systems.
  • Supports technical activities of the end users identifying mission goals, desired metrics, data standards and user workflows.
  • Works with end-users to build and analyze user stories to identify common users’, system, software and interface requirements for capability design and development.
  • Identifies end user processes, software and other mission issues that could be improved using AI.
  • Captures and formulates final articulation of user needs that will define the broader user experience.
  • Designs and prototypes specific AI or ML solutions, understanding user needs, behaviors, and motivations.
  • Works closely with Mission and Capability Delivery teams to help determine product goals.
  • Collaborates with team members on user research, customer testing, and iterative feedback loops.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 7-10 years experience, or a Masters Degree plus 5 years of experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Possess a minimum of an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility.
  • Experience with usability testing, including preparing test plans and associated wireframes, facilitating test sessions, analyzing data, and reporting and presenting results.
  • Experience with creating and documenting information design concepts and solutions by various means, including wireframes, prototypes, and task flow diagrams.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate experience and capability to make presentations to and interact with end-users.
  • Must have prior experience conducting user interviews, and contextual inquiries.
  • Experience with user tracking and metrics tooling such as Matomo.
  • Experience with visualization of user metrics using Qlik and/or Tableau.
  • Any usability/UX related certification (e.g. CUA) is a Nice to Have.
