The Employer is the world's leading source for outdoor goods, hunting equipment, gun parts, and survival gear. They are a family-owned business that has been in existence for over 75 years.

Job Description

This position is responsible for overall user experience with the Employer's family of E-commerce websites by creating and maintaining state of the art online user experience leading to increased conversion or customer engagement among the family of sites. The UX manager is also responsible for the UX strategy and execution for all display platforms including desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Operational

  1. User Experience
  2. Monitors customer patterns through the use of analytical tools and identifies conversion opportunities.
  3. Compares customer patterns to best practices.
  4. Using customer profiles, organizes site content to reflect best practices in customer segment online shopping behavior.
  5. Stays abreast of emerging web technologies and evaluates against the Employers' experience.
  6. Works with web developers, software providers, and all external partners to implement and test data and website enhancements.
  7. Responsible for navigational and interaction design of the websites, mobile sites, and other digital formats in accordance with brand guidelines and e-commerce design best practices.
  8. Drive usability testing plans and execution with 3rd party partners.

Website Integrity

  1. Determines whether to add or change content, images, categories, video, media.
  2. Works with Director of IT, hosting providers, and web developers to identify, troubleshoot and resolve website security issues.
  3. Identifies ways to optimize content to amplify user experience and provide better content.
  4. Assures that all site pages and paths are highly usable and offer a seamless experience.
  5. Coordinates with internal merchandising team to actively promote key products based on numerous factors.
  6. Leverages site merchandising software to optimize conversion and user experience.
  7. Reviews purchasing behaviors by customer segments and identifies ways to better serve the customer through technology.

Research & Analysis

  1. Oversees various research projects such as:
  2. SWOT analysis.
  3. Analysis of competition.
  4. User Polls.
  5. Monitors websites of competition and performs SWOT analysis and takes appropriate actions.
  6. Participates in evaluating the effectiveness of training content by analyzing customer behaviors.
  7. Analyzes trends and identifies most common questions, customer behaviors, etc.
  8. Provides reports on trends and findings to Director of E-Commerce.

Strategic

  1. Responsible for delivering exceptional user experience that differentiates the Employer within the industry.
  2. Works with Director of E-Commerce to conceptualize and execute all user experience and customer-facing enhancements and establish priorities for the road-map to the family of websites.
  3. Creates a unique customer perception of the Employer from its competitors through a positive online experience.
  4. Works with customers and potential customers to identify needs and opportunities to improve user experience through gap analysis.
  5. Develops, approves, and executes plans to successfully promote the Employer's brands to drive sales.
  6. Participates in incorporating websites of acquired businesses into the Employer's family of websites.
  7. Leads the development & consistent execution of navigation and interaction design standards.

Leadership

  1. Works and negotiates in collaboration with other related functional groups, such as IT, marketing, graphics, merchandising departments, contact center, Gun Tech, and outside agencies and advertisers.
  2. Demonstrates strong communications and interpersonal skills, a customer service orientation, and the ability to implement projects in a team-oriented environment.
  3. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and work hands-on with other technologies.
  4. Hires, leads, and mentors a team of interaction design and information architects.
  5. Coordinates work utilizing administrative, project management, and relationship management skills.
  6. Collaborates with marketing and site merchandising to prioritize work in accordance with business needs such as marketing events and product launches.
  7. Takes the lead on special projects or cross-functional teams as needed.
  8. Evaluates and manages 3rd party design & usability partners and agencies.
  9. Partners with analytics team to understand site behavior patterns and make data-driven design decisions.
  10. Educates and evangelizes member-centric design principles across the organization.
  11. Partners with traffic manager to assign resources for all incoming work.
  12. Partners with e-commerce leader to establish priorities for and roadmap for site design improvements.
  13. Provides reports on trends and findings to Director of E-Commerce.
  14. Tracks and reports web metrics including:
  15. Page conversion by product and category.
  16. Content accuracy.
  17. Project completion.
  18. Tracks and reports website response and uptime.
  19. Product taxonomy.
  20. Responsible for ensuring best representation of product categorization and organization in a user-friendly structure.
  21. Maintains product taxonomy across family of websites.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, or related discipline.
  2. 5+ Years web optimization, online marketing, or merchandising experience with an online retailer.
  3. Knowledge and experience with online analytical and reporting tools (Omniture preferred).
  4. Knowledge and experience in a customer-focused business including best practices for merchandising and sales.
