Job Posting – Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments

Classification: Certified – Part-Time (.5 FTE)

Full-time position may be possible with additional duties outside of this position.

Responsibilities:

Teacher is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing programs and services designed to address the unique needs of children identified as visually impaired. The Vision Education Specialist (Teacher) shall observe, consult with, and assist in coordination with the appropriate therapist and Orientation and Mobility Specialist, special education and general education teacher(s) as they adapt classroom instructional strategies to accommodate students with varying visual impairments. The Vision Education Specialist (Teacher) shall also serve as a liaison between the school and various related community agencies and professionals that provide services to children with visual impairments and their families.

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in special education visual impairment or School Orientation and Mobility Specialist program through an accredited institution
  2. Certificate of Competency in reading and writing Unified English Braille from (The CDE Certificate of Braille Competency must be earned no later than the end of the individual’s first instructional year)
  3. Ability to obtain a Temporary Education Endorsement (TEE) through CDE while enrolled in a master's degree program
  4. Hold a current and valid ACVREP Certified O & M Specialist certification
  5. Must hold or be eligible to hold a Colorado Teaching License endorsed in the subject area

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Skilled in the use of PowerSchool Database System
  2. Demonstrate ability to drive instruction based on assessment results
  3. Familiar with DIBELs and Orton-Gillingham approach to reading
  4. Knowledge of ALP’s (Advance Learning Plans)
  5. Previous elementary teaching experience
  6. Successful completion of CDE Read Act Teacher Training
  7. Experience working with a diverse student population
  8. Technology skills (Apple Technology, Student Information Systems, Google Applications for Education)

August 15-16, 2024 (New Staff Orientation)

August 19-23, 2024 (Professional Development/Teacher Planning)

August 26, 2024 (1st Day of School)

Work Schedule:

Workday: Hours depended on duties performed and needs of the District

Refer to the certified educator salary matrix. Extra Duty stipend will be provided depending on visual impaired and mobility certifications.
