Job Description: Syracuse University is seeking a skilled Web Developer with full stack development experience with a strong emphasis on modern front-end interface and site development. They will join the broader digital development team within the Division of Marketing to help develop and maintain the central web presence of Syracuse University, Syracuse.edu. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the code and template files controlling centrally-supported themes used on other University websites. The Web Developer position will work closely with the UI/UX Designer to ensure front-end usability, design and accessibility requirements are met and help manage and maintain the Digital Design System used by University websites. They will lead discussions on industry best practices with particular focus on new and emerging technologies, features, and trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and work experience.
- Three (3) plus years of work experience related to web design, development, and maintenance.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and experience designing and developing user interfaces.
- Extensive experience developing for open-source CMS, such as WordPress or Wagtail.
- Proven ability to design and develop in a manner that pays close attention to responsiveness and accessibility (WCAG 2.x).
- Knowledge of Python and other server programming languages.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others and independently as necessary.
- Must be able to evaluate issues and offer recommendations for solutions.
- Must be able to provide examples of previous work and walk through approach and responsibilities.
- Close visual acuity to perform tasks related to the production of content.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Syracuse.edu and other flagship digital properties of Syracuse University.
- Assist with development and maintenance of code for centrally supported themes, templates, and applications distributed across the University.
- Manage and maintain the Digital Design System (DDS) used by University websites.
- QA (in collaboration with the Cloud Engineer and development team) for security and performance, the UI/UX designer for front-end functionality and accessibility, and the digital and SEO strategists for template hierarchy, technical SEO, and CMS functionality.
- Professional development and mentoring of junior developer teammates.
