ABOUT THE POSITION

The Technical Writer researches, writes, edits, and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures, specifications, etc.


Key Deliverables

  1. Ensure all written information is accurate before publishing.
  2. Recommend revisions to provide quality research.
  3. Interview personnel to gain knowledge on product technologies and production methods.
  4. Write easy to understand user interface text.
  5. Create and maintain the information architecture.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

  1. Work with subject matter experts including design engineers, technicians, vendors, and others to write and develop accurate and complete technical content including but not limited to operation, maintenance, and service manuals.
  2. Review and/or copy edit content developed by other members of the team.
  3. Plan, prepare, and edit technical materials for release to customers.
  4. Generate ideas for improving content and workflow.
  5. Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information.
  6. Analyze content for needed updates or additional development.
  7. May assist in design and layout work.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

  1. Minimum 2-year degree in Engineering or Technical Communication preferred. Other degrees may be considered with adequate technical experience.
  2. Engineering, Service, or other technical background would be a plus.
  3. Familiarity with FrameMaker, AutoCad, MS Office, DITA XML authoring software such as OxygenXML, EDM software, and/or SolidWorks is highly preferred.
  4. Must be self-motivated, able to follow directions, and work independently as well as a team player.
  5. Must possess excellent writing, listening, and communication skills.
  6. Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop software.
  8. Familiarity with product liability issues and ANSI, OSHA, ISO, and other governmental or industry standards preferred.
