General Summary
This individual provides essential support in offering writing resources and assistance to all undergraduate, graduate students, and EMU faculty and staff. Performs administrative and/or fiscal activities with moderate authority to support the work and mission of the University Writing Center.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the administration of the University Writing Center by:
- Creating writing resources and developing Canvas course shells with UWC resources for faculty and students.
- Developing assessment instruments and tracking, assessing, and reporting on all UWC services.
- Creating, scheduling, and facilitating UWC workshops in classes in all disciplines.
- Creating PAFs and approving timesheets for UWC writing consultants.
- Soliciting consultant availability and developing, entering, and maintaining consulting schedules in the UWC scheduling software.
- Overseeing UWC finances, creating Concur reports, and assisting with budgeting.
- Monitoring and promoting UWC usage in all modalities.
- Performing other leadership tasks and related departmental duties as required, including, but not limited to: serving on the UWC leadership team; communicating, promoting, and advancing the mission of the UWC with all campus stakeholders; maintaining the UWC’s website and email accounts; coordinating the UWC’s presence at resource fairs, welcome events, and orientations; and addressing problems with consultant schedules and student and faculty concerns.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Written Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, or Writing Studies is required.
Administrative and/or leadership experience in writing center work and/or in a Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) or first-year writing program is required.
Expertise in the field of writing studies demonstrated through a minimum of three to five years: teaching writing classes, and/or working as a consultant in a writing center, and/or serving in a leadership role in a writing program is required.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively on writing tasks with writers and faculty across a variety of disciplines and modalities.
Experience and/or expertise in the areas of writing pedagogy across disciplines and writing program assessment is required.
Strong organizational and written/interpersonal communication skills are required.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Written Communication, Rhetoric and Composition or Writing Studies is preferred.
Experience utilizing Banner and Business Objects (BOE) is preferred.
