Job Title: Lecturer and Special Lecturer in First-Year Writing

The Department of Writing and Rhetoric invites applicants for the positions of Lecturer and Special Lecturer to instruct courses in First-Year Writing. This posting is to create a pool of interested applicants from which the Department may draw as sections become open at any point in the 2024-2025 academic year. This posting may or may not result in the hiring of an applicant. Pre-employment screening includes verification of academic credentials and background check.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements are an MA degree in Rhetoric and Composition or related field (Ph.D. preferred), knowledge of composition pedagogy and teaching new media, and minimum of one year of teaching experience in a computer classroom or partially online setting. Experience with course management software such as Moodle or Blackboard is required.

Special Instructions to Applicants

  1. A cover letter expressing teaching interests, experiences, and availability. Be sure to include the following information:
    a. A statement of teaching philosophy including pedagogical approach and use of technology and new media.
    b. Minimum and maximum number of sections desired, available/preferred days of the week, times of day, and degree of online activity.
  2. A current and complete curriculum vitae with contact information; educational history (including continuing education); teaching history listing all institutions and sections taught; other relevant employment history; publications, conference attendance, presentations and relevant professional development experience.
  3. Transcripts (unofficial)
  4. Sample syllabi, instruction assignments, grading rubrics, student projects, or any other documents that would be helpful in illustrating your teaching approach.
  5. Contact information for at least two academic professional references who are qualified to evaluate your teaching ability, including one from a writing program administrator for whom you have taught.
