KWES-TV NewsWest 9, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Odessa/Midland, TX, your trusted source for breaking news and innovative storytelling, is looking for an energetic and passionate News Producer to join our team. As part of our growing newsroom, you will be more than just a show stacker – you’ll be a creative force shaping impactful, engaging content that resonates with our viewers across television and digital platforms.

We're seeking a storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a natural curiosity for news. You’ll be a key part of our newscast team, working closely with our talent, production, and digital teams to create dynamic, compelling broadcasts that captivate our audience. Whether you’re producing a morning show, breaking news, or special coverage, you’ll bring a fresh perspective and a strong sense of urgency to everything you do.

Responsibilities:
• Produce daily newscasts that stand out from the competition by delivering compelling, engaging content.
• Collaborate with on-air talent, production, and digital teams to craft dynamic stories, set the tone of the show, and ensure flawless execution.
• Use strong editorial judgment to decide the best way to present the day's top stories, while embracing the unique characteristics of our station and community.
• Take charge of social media and digital platforms, engaging with our audience, promoting stories, and breaking news updates.
• Remain calm and help lead the team during breaking news situations and severe weather coverage, ensuring accurate, high-quality broadcasts under pressure.
• Contribute ideas for story selection and pitch new, creative content that resonates with viewers.
• Oversee all aspects of show production, including writing, editing, stacking, and timing.
• Participate in newsroom meetings, collaborate on content strategy, and handle reporter assignments as needed.

Requirements:
• College degree in journalism, mass communications, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of professional producing experience preferred; entry-level candidates with strong passion for journalism are also encouraged to apply.
• Solid understanding of breaking news coverage and the importance of timeliness and accuracy.
• Proficiency in video editing, writing compelling leads, and delivering audience-driven content.
• Strong writing skills, with the ability to craft concise, impactful copy.
• A motivated, creative self-starter with a passion for winning the day and delivering results. A creative mindset with a passion for news and storytelling.
• A proactive, solutions-oriented attitude and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
• A tech-savvy approach, with proficiency in newsroom software such as ENPS and Edius (preferred).
• Excellent knowledge of social media and digital tools for audience engagement and content discovery.
• Ability to lead a team during high-pressure situations and ensure the newscast runs smoothly, no matter what.
• Flexibility and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
