Job Listing – Political and Special Projects Producer
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee weekly political program, This Week in South Florida.
- Identify topics, book guests, write show, produce interviews, coordinate pre-taped interviews with newsmakers, produce content for WPLG website, social media and newscasts.
- Work with DC bureau to help produce political content.
- Pitch & produce daily political interviews and stories. Identify local angles from national political stories: how South Florida residents will be affected. Monitor state political stories out of Tallahassee for local implications.
- Identify and plan coverage of local and national political stories as well as international stories with local interest. Coordinate election coverage.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of television news.
- Experience in political news coverage.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high-energy environment with daily deadlines and changing priorities.
- 3-5 years’ experience as a writer or producer in a commercial news operation required.
- College degree in journalism or broadcasting preferred.
- News computer knowledge necessary.
