Education
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- One (1) year of work experience in communications, multimedia, video production, or marketing.
OR
Combined education and experience qualifications
- Other combinations of postgraduate degrees or professional level-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
Other requirements
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
Our Preferred Candidate has
- Two (2) years of experience in communications and/or marketing or a related field.
- Experience with Adobe Creative programs (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).
- Experience working in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Essential Job Tasks

- Plans, solicits, writes, designs, and manages content for a variety of internal and external communications media, including email, bimonthly newsletter, annual report, and intranet.
- Ensures MCSO initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
- Creates internal and external communications and ensures consistency of messaging across all media and for different departments of the organization.
- Develops a creative strategy for MCSO social media channels.
- Develops content creation and platform tactics by device to ensure content reaches social audience(s) of interest.
- Increases visibility of brand accounts in social space; determines how video and still images will be used to advance brand objectives.
- Monitors and responds to digital and social media sites to promote MCSO.
- Shoots and edits videos and still pictures; writes stories that can be produced internally and externally.
- Operates cameras, lighting, and audio equipment during live events and records video presentations.
- Assembles raw footage and reviews films or edited video tapes using advanced video editing software; edits images using various graphics software including digital cameras and scanners.
- Transports, assembles, maintains, and repairs all audio-visual equipment used within the division.
- Maintains a library of Office events in varied formats.
- Manages inventory of audio-visual equipment and accessories; researches, recommends, and coordinates the purchase of new software and equipment.
- Designs, assembles, and publishes external newsletters for MCSO constituents and stakeholders.
- Maintains email and newsletter templates and applies graphic design principles to create attractive, easy to read messages.
- Coordinates constituent correspondence responses including tracking and filing.
- Tracks and analyzes analytics of internal and external communications to ensure appropriate levels of readership and recommends actions to increase participation as needed.
- Attends employee and public events to capture images and information, during and outside of standard work hours.
- Establishes effective working relationships with MCSO employees, employees of other law enforcement agencies and local governments, and community members.
