Processing Assistant
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Processing Assistant receives and prepares materials for circulation. The Processing Assistant is responsible for the intake and processing of new print and physical materials for all ranges. Prepare materials for circulation including physical processing and create necessary database records in Sierra, the Library's catalog system. Maintains accuracy in record keeping and ensures quality control measures are followed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives shipments of new materials, matching to receiving ticket or invoice.
Checks material shipments for damaged or missing items.
Collaborates with Collection Services Associates as needed to resolve material issues with vendors.
Processes all physical materials following established procedures and guidelines.
Repairs or repackages physical materials as directed.
Routes materials appropriately throughout Library system.
Creates item records in ILS, the Library's Integrated Library System (Sierra).
Verifies and updates accuracy of bibliography and item records in ILS.
Assists in maintaining ILS accuracy to ensure quality service.
Assists in maintaining the accuracy of documentation relating to Processing.
Monitors inventory of processing supplies, notifying appropriate staff for order placement.
Communicates regularly with supervisor and department to identify opportunities to contribute to the use of the collection by customers.
Stays current with relevant technology.
Attends professional development opportunities.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Uses common office equipment & relevant computer software for daily tasks, communication, to record statistics, and to maintain workflow.
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, works effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, communication styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
Uses problem-solving skills in determining priorities, finding timely solutions to departmental or system-wide issues.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum three months experience, preferably in a library environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Communicate with staff and customers in person and over the phone.
May require either being in a stationary position or moving about for prolonged periods.
Moves equipment or library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
Must have reliable means of transportation to attend meetings, conferences, and perform work in other locations.
