TITLE: Director of Development and Communications

STATUS: Exempt, Full-time Employee (40 hours a week); Hybrid

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SALARY: Minimum starting salary $100k, with industry-leading benefits

Trinity Boston Connects (TBC), a respected social justice nonprofit, is seeking a Director of Development and Communications (DoDC) to join this dynamic and fast-growing community change organization. The mission of Trinity Boston Connects is to heal the traumatic impact of systemic racism in Boston, and to create a more equitable Boston in which youth of color can thrive. We work through the integration of racial equity, trauma-informed approaches, and restorative justice practices (our 3 Essential Community Practices) in service of youth, youth workers, and youth-serving organizational leaders and staff. We are looking for an individual who believes passionately in the mission of Trinity Boston Connects, is personally committed to racial equity, and is willing to learn about trauma-informed approaches and restorative justice. The Organization

TBC was born out of the social justice mission of Trinity Church in the City of Boston. We envision Boston as a fully equitable city, where systemic inequities are eliminated for youth of color, so they can enjoy equal status and access to resources as their white peers, grow up in healing and just communities, and thrive as leaders.

The Position

The DoDC is responsible for setting the Development and Communications strategy to reach annual and multiyear goals and for overseeing all activities to achieve those goals including major gifts, annual fund, special events, and corporate, foundation and government support. The DoDC will report to the Executive Director, manage two direct reports and a communications consultant, and serve as a member of TBC’s Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  1. Strategy, Management, and Operations
    1. Develop department strategy and goals that forward TBC’s mission.
    2. Effectively communicate goals, outcomes, and successes to staff, the Board, donors, TBC constituents and stakeholders.
    3. Develop and manage annual Development and Communications revenue and expense budgets, projections, and attainment of goals.
    4. Support the Executive Director in engaging the full board in achieving annual and multi-year development and communication goals.
    5. Manage and support Development and Communications staff including an Associate Director of Individual Giving, Events and Operations Manager, and Communications consultant.
    6. Promote a positive multicultural work environment by demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity and racial equity.
    7. Strengthen Development operating systems.
    8. Work with the team members and the Finance Team to develop effective reporting and tracking mechanisms.
    9. Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to develop, refine, implement, and evaluate operational plans.
    10. Maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulation.
  2. Development
    1. Develop a clear and compelling development strategy for growing philanthropic support.
    2. Build the Individual Giving pipeline with a focus on developing a portfolio of Major Gifts.
    3. Execute a successful annual gala.
    4. Grow support from foundations, corporations and government agencies.
    5. Engage and energize staff, volunteers, event committees, partner organizations, and donors.
  3. Communications
    1. Develop and implement an annual strategic communications plan.
    2. Manage the implementation of all TBC media.
    3. Measure and monitor TBC’s visibility and reach.
    4. Oversee the content of TBC’s Annual Reports.

Qualifications

  1. 7-10+ years of professional fundraising management experience in a nonprofit organization.
  2. Outstanding interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated success in a development and communications role.
  5. Strong strategic and systems thinking.
  6. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  8. High digital literacy across all TBC social media platforms.
  9. Experience working with an organization that serves communities of color.
  10. Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
