Tesla's Infrastructure Design team leads the development of innovative solutions for complex R&D and manufacturing facilities across the Bay Area and beyond. We specialize in creating sophisticated infrastructure systems that power next-generation research and production environments.As Design Manager at our Megafactory in Lathrop, CA, you will lead comprehensive design and engineering initiatives while managing multidisciplinary teams, schedules, and budgets. This role requires expertise in both technical leadership and project management to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions that align with Tesla's standards of excellence.
Responsibilities
Drive end-to-end design management for facility infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless integration across all engineering disciplines Partner with manufacturing teams to translate production requirements into efficient, scalable infrastructure solutions that optimize performance and cost Collaborate with internal/external EPC teams to ensure designs and specifications meet Tesla's engineering standards Direct the complete design process from concept through implementation, including basis of design documentation, detailed drawings, and value engineering Lead constructability reviews and coordinate cross-disciplinary design integration to prevent conflicts and optimize installation efficiency Conduct thorough capacity and risk analyses for capital infrastructure projects while developing and validating cost estimates at the conceptual phase Provide technical leadership to junior engineers while fostering an innovative design environment Create adaptable designs that accommodate future growth while maintaining ability to defend design decisions to leadership Synthesize complex technical information into clear presentations that drive strategic decision-making Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience Minimum 6 years of experience in design management and engineering design Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with NCEES record and ability to obtain California PE license Demonstrated expertise in industrial facility design and infrastructure systems Thorough knowledge of ICC codes and California Title 24 requirements Proven construction administration experience including RFI and submittal review Excellence in project management and cross-functional team leadership Advanced proficiency in technical software including Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Knowledgable in sustainable design practices and energy efficiency preferred Strong track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects preferred Compensation and Benefits Benefits

$79,200 - $194,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
