Salary range: $55,000-$59,500

Position Information:

Position Title: Collection Services Manager

Appointment Type: Academic Staff-Fixed Term Renewable

FLSA Status: Exempt

FTE: 100%

Typical Working Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:45am – 4:30pm, with occasional schedule changes and nights/weekends based on needs of department and library

Location: On Campus

Position Summary: This position is a 100% appointment in Collection Services under the general supervision of the Library Director. Manages the Collection Services unit through the supervision of personnel, participates in long-term strategic planning, and solves complex issues, which impact other units or services. Collaborates with senior leadership to implement the strategic vision and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise unit personnel. Hire, train, coach, and evaluate employees to manage and improve performance.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of unit operations, services, and space.
  • Communicate the strategic direction of the department as determined by leadership.
  • Design, develop, and provide leadership on projects, programs, procedures, and services.
  • Resolve complex issues which may impact policies and procedures within the unit.
  • Oversee collections budgets.
  • Collaborate with other managers to develop and implement initiatives and technological enterprises which directly affect the libraries.
  • Advance librarianship/archives at the campus, local, and state level through committee participation.
  • Serve as a liaison to academic disciplines and/or other campus units providing information on collections, instructional and research support, and library services.
  • Manage the library’s collection of electronic resources.
  • Serve as a contact for vendors providing collection content; establish, maintain, and review relationships with vendors and publishers.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging in all formats.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science accredited by the American Library Association with a minimum of two years subsequent library experience.
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards, RDA (Resource Description and Access), Library of Congress classification and Library of Congress subject headings.
  • Experience of increasing responsibility in library technical services operations.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize information, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing electronic resources.
  • Experience working with major library vendors and publishers, including the negotiation of license agreements.
  • Cataloging experience.
  • Reference and/or library instruction experience.
