Position Title: Public Relations Manager

Position Type: Non-Bargained

The Public Relations Manager is responsible for executing high-impact internal and external communications designed to advance the institution’s mission and elevate the brand. The Public Relations Manager will report to the Director of Communications and assist in implementing communication strategies and fostering proactive media engagement to garner positive earned media coverage for the college. The Public Relations Manager will be capable of building and managing media and community partnerships, along with supporting communication strategies designed to promote the college’s academic pathways, programs and institution-wide initiatives among target audiences/key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications or relevant field.

Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in storytelling, reporting and writing, and producing high-impact communication content that aligns with the institution’s mission and brand, effectively communicating information and messaging to college’s target audiences and community stakeholders.

Skills: Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with community partners and stakeholders to accomplish communication and public relation goals. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Think creatively and strategically with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent storytelling and project management skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends to cover college events.

Responsibilities

  1. Implement key media relation strategies, seeking high-level placements in print, digital and broadcast media, along with producing other information and promotional communication that embodies the college’s mission and positively drives the brand.
  2. Develop and implement community engagement strategies to strengthen relationships with district communities, prospective students and other community and media stakeholders.
  3. Implement communication strategies developed for academic pathways and programs and key business units to drive brand awareness and support enrollment initiatives.
  4. Create compelling content for the college’s communication channels (digital, print, video and other platforms) to drive brand awareness, boost engagement.
  5. Support with thought leadership and community affairs strategies, including mining for speaking opportunities (leadership, faculty and/or staff).
  6. Track and measure effectiveness of communication initiatives using key performance indicators and analytics tools (Cision).
  7. Collaborate cross-functionally to create cohesive business messaging.
  8. Support the Director of Communications with external communication as needed (press release review, video scripting, etc.).
  9. Generate news and information materials designed to keep district communities informed about the college, give visibility to new academic programs and boost awareness of existing programs, and other college events and developments.
  10. Gather feedback from community stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts and report findings to the Director of Communications. Provide regular updates on community engagement activities and outcomes.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
