Position Description
Position Overview:The Communications Specialist will provide strategic communications support to USAID, focusing on enhancing internal and external messaging. This role will promote USAID's leadership in IT innovation, cybersecurity, and related initiatives while ensuring alignment with the agency's strategic objectives. The successful candidate will coordinate with stakeholders, craft impactful content, and manage digital platforms to deliver high-quality communications.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
- Develop and implement a cohesive internal communications strategy to unify messaging across newsletters, intranet updates, and presentations.
- Draft, edit, and distribute executive communications such as speeches, white papers, press releases, and blog posts to highlight USAID’s IT innovations in AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
- Create talking points and storytelling materials tailored for internal and external audiences.
- Develop materials for Congressional hearings and briefings, aligning content with USAID’s IT strategic vision.
- Manage and create content for USAID’s social media platforms, ensuring alignment with agency objectives.
- Maintain, manage, and improve intranet and other internal communication platforms to deliver high-quality, consistent content.
- Oversee intranet architecture and navigation, ensuring usability and alignment with strategic goals.
- Identify and secure speaking engagements, forums, and high-visibility conferences to showcase USAID’s IT initiatives.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare detailed reports on relevant news and developments.
- Collaborate with other USAID offices to ensure unified messaging across the agency’s communication efforts.
- Provide technical assistance and implement best practices for web content, intranet management, and digital media strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and updates on communication projects, initiatives, and media analytics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field and ten (10) years of relevant communications experience; or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field and eight (8) years of relevant communications experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing communications between government agencies and the public.
- Experience with federal government communications and knowledge of USAID branding guidelines is preferred.
- Strong background in digital media management and internal storytelling.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of IT innovations, cybersecurity, and cloud computing is desirable.
This position requires a dynamic communicator who can deliver impactful messages and foster greater awareness of USAID’s strategic IT initiatives.
