Oversees and is responsible for all aspects of marketing and media tools such as press releases, flyers, brochures, ads and the quarterly program guide to promote memberships, rentals, programs and events offered by the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department in order to increase awareness, participation, member recruitment and retention. Other significant duties include web site maintenance, social media advocacy, branding/image consistency, photography and marketing staff support during special events.

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role. Initial review of resumes will occur after January 26, 2025. Position will remain open through February 9, 2025. Identifies new markets and competition to generate interest in memberships, programs and activities; Develops marketing literature, ensuring valid, current and accurate content; Assists in the creation of program guides including writing news articles, photos, editing and distribution; Develops and maintains an effective member retention plan, in coordination with other department staff; Plans, develops, and produces print media and media campaigns; Maintains department website with updated information, photos, copy, announcements, etc.; Produces electronic newsletters and departmental e-mail messages; Designs and implements plans to market membership sales and programs; Writes and distributes press releases, invites media to events and conducts on-air interviews as needed; Designs, coordinates and negotiates advertising in local media; Coordinates events including meetings, speaking engagements, seminars, trade shows, and exhibits; networks in the community, attending public and civic events as appropriate; Monitors department communication plans and strategies for uniformity in messages, including templates, tag lines, and logo usage; Generates revenue through membership sales/retention to meet overall Center revenue goals; Performs other related job duties as assigned. Education and Experience Associate degree from an accredited college with coursework in Public Relations or related field; and two (2) years of experience in marketing or public relations. Special Qualifications: Possession of valid driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and advertising; Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and with activity participants; Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines and multi-line telephone systems; Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or recordkeeping purposes. The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Dexterity ability to pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling; Handling ability: sufficient to pick, hold, or otherwise work, primarily with the whole hand; Hearing ability: sufficient to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound; Lifting ability: sufficient to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles; Mental Acuity: sufficient to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes; Reaching ability: sufficient to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers; Speaking ability: sufficient to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely; Visual ability: sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer etc.; to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.; Walking ability: sufficient to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or move from one work site to another. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
