JOB SUMMARY
Provide general adult reference while building and maintaining relevant, balanced, and
high-interest collections.
MAJOR TASKS
- Oversee the adult reference desk in coordination with other librarians. Answer informational and directional questions placed via any format. Assist patrons in locating information and materials. Assist patrons in the use of library equipment.
- Maintain, develop, and promote the library’s physical and digital collections to provide a high quality and inclusive collection that is relevant, balanced, and high-interest to our community. Recommend materials for purchase, weed and update existing collections as assigned.
- Plan and conduct programs in cooperation/coordination with other AYA Services staff.
- Participate in adult outreach in cooperation with AYA services staff.
- Stay abreast of current events, pop culture and local news. Keep informed of developments in the library field through reading and participation in professional activities and meetings.
- Perform other tasks assigned by department supervisor.
- Assume responsibility for Adult Young Adult Services Department in the absence of the supervisor and for the library system in the absence of the scheduled person in charge.
REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; Minimum of two years professional library experience; Excellent oral and written communication, confident public speaking; A strong sense of responsibility, confidentiality, collegiality, and personal initiative; Ability to work with standard computer applications and databases and working in a digital environment; Schedule includes evenings and weekends
