Occupational Summary

The Library Technical Assistant is responsible for supporting daily technical operations. This position performs complex technical library services duties in and around the library preparing resources and services for use by patrons, as well as assisting patrons at the library's information desk.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external patrons through walk-in and virtual support
  • Performs closing duties for the department including staffing the information desk; may occasionally perform opening duties
  • Provides basic technical assistance to students and employees utilizing library technology, including printing services, computers, and virtual reality
  • Supports the library's virtual reality instructional program by updating software, maintaining hardware, and preparing devices for daily instructional use
  • Maintains and updates the library's virtual reality reservation calendar(s) for students and employees; prepares and processes VR headsets for circulation to students
  • Regularly records, compiles, and reports technology-related library statistics
  • Troubleshoots library technology equipment issues; communicates issues to the appropriate department as needed
  • Maintains and updates the technology inventory; monitors condition of equipment and makes recommendations for purchase
  • Performs a variety of technical services in support of the library's physical and digital collections such as materials processing and repair, pre-cataloging, and discarding materials
  • Assists in promoting library services and resources through social media, library newsletter, and website updates
  • Assists at the information desk as needed
  • Participates in the coordination and completion of special projects and events in support of the library
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years' experience in a library or office environment.
Preferred:
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Experience with virtual reality in instructional or library settings.

  • Intermediate knowledge of computers and application software including current library-related technologies and equipment
  • Knowledge of basic library technical services
  • Operational practices, services and resources in an academic library
  • Library best practices for instruction and student support
  • Public relations and customer service practices
Skills
  • Proficient with library related programs, Microsoft Office, and digital technologies
  • Proficient with basic computer hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communications skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Works effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus
