Grants Writer
Location: South Clinic 9119 S. Exchange Ave Chicago, IL 60617
Schedule: Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm
We are seeking a skilled Grants Writer to join our team. The Grants Writer plays a crucial role in the Development Department, supporting the organization's mission by preparing compelling and high-quality proposals to secure funding from public and private sources. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Grants Writer is responsible for researching funding opportunities, drafting grant applications, and coordinating submission processes.
Your skills in writing, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management will be essential in fulfilling your duties. In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to collaborate on securing funding, and the Chief Financial Officer and Grants Manager, Grant Accountant to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Collaboration with internal departments such as finance and leadership to create persuasive, targeted grant proposals and applications.
- Research, identify, and develop new grant funding opportunities from public and private sources.
- Write, edit, and submit grant applications, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
- Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of potential funding sources and their requirements.
- Gather and analyze organizational data for inclusion in grant applications and compliance reports.
- Provide internal data summaries and custom analyses for leadership and board presentations.
- Track grant deadlines and submission schedules to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- Prepare reports detailing grant outcomes, impact, and financial compliance for funders and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of grant submissions, awards, and outcomes, including monitoring and maintaining funder reporting schedules and requirements.
- Analyze grant performance and provide strategic recommendations for future applications.
- Assist with other fundraising activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of successful grant writing experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of grant preparation and administration principles.
- Demonstrated success in identifying and securing public and private funding.
- Relevant experience includes not only professional advocacy on behalf of others but personal experience with community-based health care, poverty, chronic illness, HIV, mental illness, public housing, or other issues affecting our client population.
- Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge).

Work Arrangement: This role is eligible for a “hybrid remote” work arrangement. If hybrid, it is expected this person would be able to meet for “in person” meetings when needed or at the request of others. In-person meetings may be required on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, etc.).
