Description

The Assistant Director of Hospitality and Events, Audio-Visual Services is responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, and management of all audio and visual equipment related to events held at Samford University. The Assistant Director of Hospitality and Events, Audio-Visual Services directs and coordinates state-of-the-art audio/visual support services for all campus events and works closely with university departments to ensure successful coordination and execution of audio-visual services.
Job Duties

  • Plans, assists, schedules, and supports audio visual service needs throughout Samford's campus for inside and outside clients, including conferences, lectures, meetings, performances, and signature and special events.
  • Assists in the live technical production of major university and special events.
  • Assists in creating event documentation such as stage plots, input lists, and lighting schedules.
  • Participates in planning/production meetings and operating technical audio/video/lighting-related positions.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of annual and university campus events.
  • Collaborates with Samford's Technology Services and other relevant departments to ensure smooth operation of IT-AV integrated systems.
  • Provides faculty, staff, and students with audio-visual support. Consult with users about event needs and make recommendations for audio-visual equipment and labor.
  • Coordinates with inside and/or outside clients regarding audio-visual service needs to obtain information such as availability and cost of services or equipment requested.
  • Prepares facilities for requested audio-visual services and troubleshoots media-related concerns.
  • Engages in research to purchase audio, lighting, and video equipment.
  • Maintains equipment inventories, monitors equipment check-out/return, and recommends system upgrades.
  • Interacts with clients during events, ensuring the highest quality and customer service for all conferences, events, and services.
  • Operates complex, state-of-the-art sound and lighting and media presentation systems.
  • Schedules Audio Visual Services Manager, Audio-Visual Technician(s), and student worker staff based on events, adjusting or modifying schedules to better serve large-scale events.
  • Assists in map creation and layouts for events.
  • Coordinates audio-visual needs for Campus Worship.
  • Designs, coordinates, and supervises audio/visual integration to new and existing buildings.
  • Repairs and maintains audio, video, and lighting equipment regularly.
  • Assists in the execution of routine maintenance and organization of equipment and storage.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience and/or training to include transferrable audio mixing/video production/lighting design experience in high-intensity, high-energy live productions in larger venues.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one area of media production (audio, video) and general working knowledge/competency of all technical systems.
  • Knowledge of the general event production practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of essential maintenance and mechanic skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and schedule work assignments.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and some weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of convention services, hospitality business camps, conferences, or other service-related venues.
  • Skill using personal computers, both Windows and Apple operating systems, and related software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of classroom technology systems, including, but not limited to: Yodeck, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, REAPER, QLab, ProPresenter, Console Knowledge, and DiGiCo.
  • Knowledge of the application of Dante and NDI network protocols.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and repair multimedia equipment.
  • Ability to quickly resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Excellent telephone courtesy, knowledge, and experience.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate meetings and/or special events.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
