Summary
Virginia Commonwealth University School of theArts (VCUarts) Department of Communication Arts is establishing a pool ofapplicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. This pool of applicantscould be drawn upon to provide temporary staffing when needed; to providespecial teaching expertise when needed; and/or to meet special programmaticneeds not otherwise provided for within the program.
Given these criteria, this pool will only beassessed when an adjunct opportunity arises. Possible adjunct opportunitiescould include teaching a course(s) in any of the areas of study offered by thedepartment of Communication Arts. If an adjunct opportunity arises, only thoseselected for an interview will be contacted.
Adjunct faculty are expected to be thoughtfuland proactive members of the Communication Arts community and have a desire towork with a diverse student population in a collaborative, inclusive andlearning-centered collective.

- Figure Drawing - includes introductory figure drawing, anatomy, and drawing the figure in an environmental and/or conceptual context.
- Fundamentals of Typography - introductory typography and graphic design course as it applies to Communication Arts using traditional and digital tools.
- Concept Drawing - includes traditional and digital methods for creating original characters and environments based on assigned prompts, narratives, or larger conceptual universes.
- Sequential Imaging - includes various traditional and digital methods of creating imagery as it applies to - or is a function of - books, graphic novels, and entertainment industry storyboarding (animation, film, and video games).
- Illustration: Drawing and Painting - addresses conceptual and technical considerations involved in the use of various drawing and painting media.
- Graphic Design - includes an understanding of the relationship between form and effective communication - an awareness and appreciation for visual imagery as a tool for the transmission of information and ideas.
- 3D Graphics - introductory and intermediate 3D graphics for visual effects, animation and or game.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- MFA or BFA with significant professional experience in fields related to teaching responsibilities.
- Appropriate teaching experience and/or strong oral presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
