Senior Editor and Writer

Akoya is seeking a Senior Editor/Writer to join our team supporting the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). EERE is working to build an energy economy that will enhance economic growth, support America’s energy independence and improve the health and well-being of the American people. Our strategic engagement and outreach support services contribute to EERE’s mission. Join us in supporting an energy revolution!

The Senior Editor and Writer supporting U.S. Department of Energy will be responsible for:

Editing (60%)

  • Serve as team senior-level content editor reviewing reports, strategies, blogs, executive-level speeches and talking points, and social media for consistency and quality.
  • Edit 300+ page highly visible national reports.
  • Edit and proofread content for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and style to align with EERE’s style guide.
  • Conduct research and fact-checking to ensure the accuracy of information presented in the content.
  • Track ongoing projects utilizing project management software, managing time to ensure content is delivered on time and meets client standards.
  • Host writing workshops to enhance staff’s storytelling and communication skills.

Writing (40%)

  • Develop and coordinate a weekly newsletter working closely with team SMEs for content input.
  • Collect, organize, and develop high-quality drafts of web content, fact sheets, reports, presentations, briefing memos, and summaries of conferences, exhibit and workshop activities for internal and external publications.
  • Support major technical or non-technical publication development across several parties and/ or content structure for web site pages.
  • Coordinate with the design team to ensure that content is visually appealing and consistent with the brand’s style.
  • Collaborate with the SEO team to optimize content for search engines and improve organic rankings.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in content creation.

Project Management

  • Independently develop and track own writing/editing project timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with contract leadership and ensure contract requirements, SOPs, and processes are followed.
  • Follow team project management procedures, including updating project trackers as required.

Team Management

  • Report to Akoya contract management team. Collaborate with contract and client leaders to ensure ongoing transparency about project status, risks, and successes.
  • Collaborate with contract team and EERE personnel to ensure writing/editing content is strategic and aligns with client messaging priorities.
  • Manage Akoya content team day-to-day contract activities and ensure projects meet or exceed client quality expectations.
  • Manage team project tracking, timelines, and deadlines. Ensure content is developed and approved following strict SOPs and processes.
  • Coach staff in a constructive way to continuously improve client service and deliverable quality.
Requirements
  • Minimum of ten years professional experience and a Bachelors degree, seven years experience and a Masters degree or five years experience and a PhD.
  • U.S. citizenship is required with verbal and written fluency in English
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a federal security clearance (public trust level).
  • Must have experience in the energy sector.
  • Must be based in Washington D.C. – This role will have to report to client locations up to five days per week.
  • Travel may be required on occasion.
  • Must have extensive experience leading major content development initiatives, effectively collaborating with cross-functional internal and external subject matter experts, and demonstrating a positive, team-building approach in daily work and interpersonal interactions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strongly prefer federal contracting experience.
Base Compensation
  • Base compensation: $104,000 to $113,000. Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as location, education, years of experience, and candidate skillset.
