POSITION SUMMARY

The Studio Facilities Assistant provides staff coverage during the academic year to assist the Studio Manager and Equipment Center Coordinator in keeping Audio Arts and Acoustics Department facilities primarily the Lower Level (LL) studios, labs, and classrooms - operational and accessible to students and faculty during the academic year. This position requires operational audio knowledge and proficiency, and it also prioritizes reliability, flexibility, and interpersonal skills.

This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week and capped at 950 hours per calendar year. Flex work options are available.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate faculty and student access to and operation of the department studio, lab, and classroom facilities.
  • Support, supervise, and assist student workers in studio operations including facilitating reserved and walk-in access to studios and labs, troubleshooting patron issues and providing light user support, identifying and reporting equipment and software problems to studio manager and engineering staff, and processing reserved equipment pick-up and return.
  • Provide administrative support, alongside student worker team: greeting and directing students, faculty, and guests; answering phone.
  • Open or close facilities at start/ end of day, as scheduled.
  • Assist patrons with equipment and facility use as able, and document issues for the Studio Manager and Equipment Center Coordinator to address.
  • Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities, as assigned or required.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Audio experience and/or education that demonstrates operational audio knowledge and proficiency with audio systems and processes.
  • Experience that demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work responsibly and effectively in an unsupervised setting.
  • Experience working with higher education population a plus.
  • Ability to problem solve and proactively take on issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse student, staff and faculty populations.
  • Requires regularly lifting or carrying items 50 lbs. or more, using ladders and lifts, pushing/pulling carts and large equipment, and climbing stairs.
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed.
