Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Director of Technical Design and Product Development at Miss Elaine Inc in St. Louis, MO. The Director will lead the team that develops and produces all women's product for Miss Elaine, Inc. He/she will be a strategic partner responsible for management of the technical design team and the execution of product from development to commercialization. The Director will analyze and evaluate garments with correct fit specifications and brand aesthetic and establish processes to support this. Responsibilities include overseeing technical design, garment construction, product development, pattern making, and fitting processes on a daily basis, while working closely with the design team to ensure that all garments meet Miss Elaine's standards of quality, comfort, and style.
Primary Responsibilities
- A fit, style, and construction expert, who understands the brand and product history and aesthetic requirements.
- Full understanding of quality standards to drive and maintain premium quality of the brand.
- Lead, manage and develop a technical design team to deliver in line with the business goals.
- Develop a product line 4 times a year for sleepwear and robe categories, from concept including color, prints, fabric and styles through samples and to start of production.
- Oversee all elements of technical packages including sketches, construction details, specs, markers and BOM.
- Manage pattern department, sample room, and Accumark pattern and grading system.
- Responsible for approval of colors, prints, fabrics, embroideries and trims from development to production.
Work Experience and Qualifications
- Advanced understanding and practical application of garment sewing, construction design, pattern making, and grading (preferably experience in CAD pattern systems). Ability to make recommendations to reduce costs by making changes to garment construction without affecting integrity of garments.
- Technical design and garment construction expertise, including knowledge of garment pricing.
- Experience in Product Development and pattern making.
- Proficiency in fitting techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including with international suppliers and factories.
- Knowledge of textile technology, fabric properties, textile and print design for knit and woven fabrics.
- Thorough knowledge of product development software systems and their implementations (Yunique PLM preferable).
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- 10+ years technical design experience in the apparel industry.
