Overview

Founded in 1922, Foreign Affairs is the preeminent publication on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. It is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization and nonpartisan center dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas.

Foreign Affairs is looking for a deputy editor to join our editorial team. This position is located in New York on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite. CFR’s hybrid schedule is subject to change.

Major Responsibilities

• As part of the editorial leadership, participate in planning coverage, crafting editorial strategy, carrying out quality control, and designing and maintaining systems and schedules.
• Commission, review, and edit articles and other content.
• Help manage the editorial staff.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing skills.
• Significant editing experience.
• Experience with digital publishing.
• Management experience.
• Ability to juggle a wide range of tasks on short deadlines and work well as part of a team.
• Strong understanding of foreign policy and international affairs.

Pay Range

$130,000 to $150,000. Pay commensurate with experience and education.
