WHY BEMIDJI:
Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as an Assistant Professor of Music/Applied Violin. We seek someone to teach undergraduate applied lessons in violin and viola, string techniques, direct string ensembles, and teach other music theory, literature, and arts administration courses as needed. Additional duties will include supporting and coordinating the recruitment and scholarship activities of the School of Music.
Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Music/Applied Violin include:
- Teaching Applied Violin and Viola.
- Teaching String Techniques.
- Directing String Ensembles.
- Teaching core courses, particularly Music Theory and Ear Training.
- Teaching other Literature courses as needed.
- Teaching courses in Arts Management.
- Supporting and Coordinating the Scholarship and Recruitment efforts of the program.
- Contributing to a program of scholarship within the discipline, advising students, serving the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
- Designing and delivering courses for on-campus and online delivery, as needed.
- Advising and supporting students’ academic progress.
- Pursuing scholarly and/or creative activities.
- Contributing to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
- Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values.
- Assisting with programmatic accreditation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- ABD in violin performance and prior college-level teaching experience in applied violin and viola and music theory.
Preferred qualifications include:
- DMA in violin performance.
- MM in Music Theory or a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in Music Theory.
- Demonstrated excellence in performing and teaching.
- Successful recruiting experience.
- Familiarity with recruiting and scholarship software.
- Successful curricular development and coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in arts management/administration.
- Demonstrated ability to teach liberal education courses.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
SALARY
Depends on Qualifications – negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
