Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. Within the U.S. HIV Prevention Business Unit, the

Executive Director, Marketing (Market Expansion)

is responsible for driving strategic initiatives to expand market reach and adoption of HIV prevention solutions. This role focuses on engaging naïve consumer segments (individuals not previously exposed to or aware of HIV prevention products) and converting non-prescribing healthcare providers into active prescribers. The successful candidate will combine strategic marketing expertise, market insights, and cross-functional collaboration to create sustainable growth in new and underpenetrated markets. The successful candidate will envision what it takes for market expansion, recommending and building a team to support the work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Market Expansion Strategy Develop and execute a comprehensive market expansion strategy targeting naïve consumer segments and current non-prescribers, and build the internal team to support the strategy. Identify untapped opportunities and underserved populations, leveraging data analytics, market research, and trends. Build targeted campaigns to increase awareness and drive behavior change among key audience groups.

Consumer-Focused Marketing Design and implement marketing initiatives that resonate with naïve consumers, focusing on education, accessibility, and trust-building. Collaborate with the product team to create tailored messaging and positioning for HIV prevention products. Develop digital, social, and community outreach programs to foster engagement with new audiences, working closely with segmented consumer profiles and geographic advocacy groups.

Healthcare Provider Engagement Collaborate with the commercial and medical teams to identify and address barriers preventing healthcare providers from prescribing HIV prevention solutions. Design educational tools, events, and resources to drive awareness and confidence among non-prescribers. Partner with professional associations and advocacy groups to expand prescriber networks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with marketing, market access, medical affairs, digital, advocacy, and health equity teams to align strategies and execute initiatives effectively. Build relationships with external partners, community health organizations, and advocacy groups.

Performance Measurement Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of market expansion efforts. Monitor campaign effectiveness and use insights to optimize strategies and tactics. Prepare regular reports for leadership on progress, challenges, and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years' Experience OR Masters' Degree and Twelve Years' Experience OR PhD and Twelve Years' Experience Preferred Qualifications: 14+ years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or related fields; or 14+ years of experience and a Master's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or related field. 10+ years of relevant experience in sales/marketing analysis, statistical analysis, or financial forecasting in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry 10+ years of experience in marketing, market expansion, or healthcare-related roles, with a focus on consumer and healthcare provider engagement. Proven track record of launching or expanding products into new markets, particularly within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS Balances exceptional technical expertise with strong strategic thinking and practical business orientation. Able to distill complex information into essential knowledge and persuasively present it to all levels of management. Able to assume full responsibility for accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of deliverables completed through own efforts or those of subordinate employees, i.e., both leader and hands-on contributor. A firm grasp of complex forecasting & modeling techniques that support various types of strategic analytics (e.g., forecasting, business analytics, sales incentive modeling, etc.) is preferred. Candidates with strong analytical capabilities without forecasting experience are also encouraged to apply. Must be able to recognize and interpret business issues/opportunities and recommend solutions persuasively supported with rigorous analysis. Experience in a pharmaceutical environment is desirable, as is a solid understanding of principles relating to functional specialization. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead, interact, focus, resolve conflict, and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines, are required. Demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate, and influence cross-functional stakeholders and executive management. Strong knowledge of the roles of other functions (Finance, Market Research, Marketing, Market Access, Medical, Digital, etc.) Expertise in audience segmentation and behavior-driven marketing strategies. Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills. Experience with digital marketing, social media campaigns, and community outreach. Familiarity with the healthcare landscape, particularly HIV prevention, is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is: $302,005.00 - $390,830.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
