An Interior Design Assistant provides administrative and creative support to a lead interior designer by assisting with project research, space planning, sourcing materials, creating design presentations, managing client communication, and coordinating project logistics, often utilizing interior design software to execute design visions while adhering to project budgets and timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Development:
- Conduct initial site visits and gather measurements to create accurate floor plans.
- Research and present design concepts based on client needs and current trends.
- Develop mood boards and color palettes to visually communicate design ideas.
- Material Sourcing and Procurement:
- Source furniture, fabrics, lighting fixtures, and finishes from vendors based on design specifications.
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships
- Request samples and manage sample libraries.
- Prepare and track purchase orders.
- Client Communication:
- Schedule client meetings and presentations.
- Respond to client inquiries and address concerns promptly.
- Update clients on project progress and manage expectations.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain project files and documentation.
- Prepare project budgets and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors regarding deliveries and installations.
Required Skills:
- Design Skills: Basic understanding of design principles (color theory, balance, proportion) and spatial planning.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in interior design management software.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with clients and vendors effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Research Skills: Capability to research market trends, product specifications, and industry standards.
- Project Management Skills: working with contractor/owner to keep a project moving in alignment with end goals.
Education and Experience:
- Prior experience in an interior design firm or related field is beneficial.
