Job Description
An Assistant Civil Designer will assist in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, 3D modeling, and preparation of construction documentation and environmental plans as part of a project team. This position will work on a diverse portfolio of project types and clients within the energy generation, storage, and renewables sectors.
- Support the creation of engineering drawing packages, including drawing sheet production, 3D grading, topographic analysis, earthwork volume analysis, and processing received survey information.
- Assist in designing various civil projects including site design and grading, land development, roads, sediment and erosion control, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design.
- Assist with analyzing reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geotechnical data to plan and design projects.
- Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule with minimal errors or comments.
- Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
- Understand and complete tasks with limited guidance from senior team members.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and two years related experience or Associate's degree and three years related experience or four years progressive detailing and design experience.
- Substantial understanding of standard AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Experience with using AutoCAD Civil 3D design tools, including feature lines, COGO points, surfaces, alignments, and grading tools.
- Basic knowledge of Excel and GIS for the purposes of extracting and manipulating design data.
- Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the civil design.
- Understands sheet production and annotation best practices. Ability to recognize company and team CAD standards. Can identify and implement client standards.
- Ability to interpret and resolve drawing markups with minimal rework.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn, improve, and to take initiative and responsibility for designs.
