Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented Design Technician II to join our Civil Engineering Group, supporting gas asset capital projects. This department is responsible for implementing capital projects across gas systems, producing civil construction packages, and driving the success of natural gas initiatives within the lower portion of Michigan.

As a Design Technician II, you will play a key role in interfacing with third-party designs, reviewing CAD work, and creating civil construction packages using Bentley products like MicroStation and OpenPlant. The role requires a detail-oriented individual to ensure that designs adhere to project standards while working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Interface with third-party design teams and review CAD work for adherence to project requirements.
  • Self-perform design work, including drafting civil construction packages and creating drawing packages.
  • Create product standard drawings and standard details.
  • Review third-party design work for compliance with CAD standards and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with other designers across disciplines to ensure project integration.
  • Draft more complex drawings in OpenPlant, integrating Civil 3D where necessary.
  • Revise standard detail drawings as required to maintain up-to-date project specifications.
  • Maintain project file management using ProjectWise.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in civil construction package development.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation; experience with Bentley products required.
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise for project document management (preferred).
  • Experience with OpenPlant for drafting complex designs (preferred).
  • Knowledge of AutoDesk Civil 3D is an advantage, as it is commonly used by competitors.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review third-party designs for accuracy.
  • Ability to create high-quality construction packages and design drawings.
