GCS is hiring: Senior Radio Frequency Design Engineer in Wallingford

GCS, Wallingford, CT, United States, 06495

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. RF Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing RF amplifiers used in cable TV systems. You will play a critical role in enhancing the signal strength and quality of RF signals, ensuring they meet industry standards, such as DOCSIS, and are seamlessly integrated with other broadband components. This is a hands-on role where you will lead the end-to-end design process, from simulation and prototyping to evaluation and testing of the final product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop RF cable TV amplifiers that boost the strength of RF signals for cable TV systems.
  • Perform simulation and Modeling of RF and digital circuits using simulation tools such as Keysight Genesys, AD’s, MATLAB, or similar RF/Broadband simulation tools.
  • Ensure amplifier designs meet industry standards, including DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) for compatibility with cable TV systems.
  • Minimize signal distortion, optimize frequency range, and improve overall amplifier performance.
  • Conduct prototyping and hands-on evaluation of RF components and digital circuits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software and hardware engineers, to integrate amplifier designs with other components in broadband systems.
  • Use test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other tools to measure frequency response, return loss, noise figure, and other key performance indicators.
  • Provide guidance and support for troubleshooting and debugging RF amplifier systems and components.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in RF and broadband technology, ensuring designs are cutting-edge and adhere to best practices.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the product lifecycle for cable TV amplifiers, from design through to deployment and testing.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed simulations and models of RF and digital circuits to refine amplifier designs.
  • Utilize Keysight Genesys and similar software to develop and optimize amplifier circuitry.
  • Perform testing using network and spectrum analyzers to assess performance metrics such as frequency response, return loss, and noise figure.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the RF amplifier integrates seamlessly with other components and systems.
  • Assist in the prototyping phase and evaluate the designs for performance and reliability.
  • Document all design processes, test results, and any modifications to ensure clarity and reproducibility.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in designing and developing RF amplifiers, specifically within the CATV (Community Antenna Television) and cable TV industries.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with broadband RF components and systems.
  • Proficiency in RF circuit design and simulation using tools such as Keysight Genesys, AD’s, MATLAB, or similar RF/Broadband simulation software.
  • Extensive experience with RF testing equipment, particularly vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other relevant RF measurement tools.
  • Strong understanding of DOCSIS cable TV standards and how they impact amplifier design and integration.
  • Strong background in RF components, digital circuits, and broadband RF technologies.
  • Experience with the complete product lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and integration.
