Title: Studio Lab Coordinator Employee Classification: PE Pay Grade: PT 08 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: School of Art and Design Department: College of Arts and Sciences Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary This position will coordinate and be responsible for the operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment in either the School of Art & Design's three-dimensional areas of ceramics, sculpture, metals, furniture design, digital fabrication and 3D design OR in the School of Art & Design's two-dimensional areas of painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, graphic design, art education, fibers, 2D and digital foundations studios and 2D general education studios, depending on which position the PT is assigned. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate with studio faculty, the school director, and EMU Physical Plant regarding maintenance and repair of either 3D or 2D studio equipment and facilities. In collaboration with EMU Health and Safety officials, oversee and enforce relevant health and safety codes and regulations and develop and coordinate a studio safety plan. Perform Health and Safety assessment, resolution, and reporting. Perform routine maintenance and repair of studio tools/machines. Manage/coordinate disposal of materials, including hazardous materials, in designated studios. Provide orientation, assistance, and training to faculty and students, both graduate and undergraduate, on relevant techniques/processes and equipment and its use. Train and schedule student employees in select studios. Manage inventories and purchase supplies as requested by either the 3D or 2D faculty of various materials and supplies in designated studios. Monitor studios for safety and compliance; be available to answer technical questions that arise. Perform assigned tasks in designated studios. Implement improvements as directed by the school director. Other department related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in studio art is required. Two years experience with the machines, tools, and techniques used in designated studios is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently, be proactive on issues, take initiative, and be very knowledgeable on health and safety policies and expectations is required. Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to use and maintain equipment and facilities such as the ability to stand, walk, bend, and routinely manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of 10-50 pounds. May require occasional heavy lifting, approximately 100 pounds. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in studio art is preferred. Previous experience maintaining and managing studio art/shop facilities is preferred. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and digital fabrication equipment is preferred. Special Instructions: We are currently seeking a 3D Studio Coordinator for the areas of: ceramics, sculpture, metals, furniture design, digital fabrication and 3D design. All studios are located within our brand new Windgate Arts Complex. Appointment Percentage: 92%
