Johnson County Library is seeking applicants for the role of

Branch Services Clerk

to work in the Southwest Region (Gardner, Lenexa, Edgerton, and Spring Hill). The Branch Services Clerk position is responsible for the processing and placement of materials in library branches in alignment with the systemwide Materials Handling and Circulation standards and procedures. This position handles transactions including checking in and out materials, shelving, and troubleshooting damaged, mistmatched, and missing materials.

Other duties include: Discharges, sorts and processes materials; prioritizes workflow in collaboration with circulation team; follows Mismatched Items procedure; pulls expired holds and ensures send item list is processed; organizes carts based on shelving rules and shelves materials according to established standards; completes shelf reading and inventory assignments; corrects shelving errors, straightens shelves, shifts materials for easier access, and returns items with labeling errors; weeds collection based on Collections Department guidelines and identifies items in need of repair or relabeling; merchandises the collection through displays and face-outs; completes opening and closing procedures; boxes donations; processes holds; empties book drops.

Provides assistance and resolves patron account issues at identified circulation service points; answers basic readers' advisory and technology questions; refers more complex questions to Patron Services Specialists or Regional Librarians; assists with the checkout of materials; tracks statistics; upholds intellectual freedom. Monitors basic safety, security, and cleanliness protocols across all Library spaces at all times; utilizes Guidelines for Enforcing Patron Code of Behavior to maintain a safe and comfortable environment; engages in all required workplace safety and security training, adhering to relevant guidelines. Attends relevant meetings or obtains information if unable to attend; provides support and coverage for coworkers, regionally and systemwide; participates in committees; participates in marketing the library collection, programs, and services; contributes to discussions on the development of a more efficient materials handling system for the Library; follows guidelines set forth by the Collection Development, Circulation, and Branch Services departments; understands and supports systemwide strategic objectives.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a materials handling or stocking environment are required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.

Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year of experience in a library and one (1) year of experience providing customer service are preferred.

Education/Experience Substitutions: Experience may be substituted for degree. Education may be substituted for experience.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions: Lifting weight: up to 40 lbs. Excessive standing and/or walking: 75% of the time Shift Work: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends Employees will be expected to work at any of the branches within their region, as needed. Occasional exposure to weather and temperature changes including hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions. All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
