Character Technical Director We are seeking a skilled Character Technical Director for an innovative project featuring high fidelity human characters in Unreal Engine 5. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of professional experience in film, television, or games, and a strong understanding of animation pipelines and content creation in Unreal. A solid technical background combined with creative instincts is essential. Key Responsibilities: Work with digital scan data (reduction, retopo). Create stylized and realistic rigs ensuring proper deformation and weighting. Develop character assets and control rigs in Unreal Editor. Generate character blend shape and corrective shape assets. Author animation blueprints using Unreal Editor. Create motion range assets for testing character rigs. Design bespoke character models. Collaborate with engineers to devise and implement tools and workflows in Unreal Engine. What We're Looking For: 5+ years of experience in a professional environment working with Unreal Engine on a team of 5 or more. Strong communication skills, with a background in liaising with vendors and clients. Experience creating realistic and compelling characters for games or film. Familiarity with both forward and reverse kinematics rigging. Expertise in using DCCs like Maya or Blender for character creation. Ability to create custom tools for Unreal Editor and DCC packages. Experience with rapid prototyping and iterative development. Willingness to explore additional tasks such as cloth simulation and UI design. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with clothing creation tools like Marvelous Designer. Experience with programming languages such as Python, Mel, or C++. Understanding of PBR rendering and texture creation. Knowledge of procedural modeling and rigging using Houdini or Blender. Experience with high fidelity CG humans like MetaHuman. Familiarity with Substance: Painter, Designer, and Modeler. This is a full-time remote position as we support a Virtual Studio. The expected annual base pay range for this role is between $100k - $140k, depending on skills, competencies, qualifications, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible for benefits and discretionary incentive programs.
