Departmental Overview

The School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice everywhere humans interact with digital technologies. Through interdisciplinary research and teaching, we are committed to expanding access to information and to improving its usability, reliability, and credibility while preserving security and privacy. Our faculty conduct research in human-computer interaction (HCI), security and privacy, applied data science, and technology in developing regions.

This position focuses on operational management for academic programs, ensuring they deliver high-quality, engaging learning experiences aligned with institutional and industry standards. This role integrates instructional design expertise and stakeholder collaboration to enhance student outcomes.

This is a 100% FTE, 9-month contract position with the possibility of extension and/or conversion to career.

Responsibilities

Applies advanced professional instructional design and technology skills to create highly complex online course designs, map learning objectives/outcomes to create performance data, apply programming knowledge or use technical tools to enable delivery of user behavior data related to interactive learning activities.

Provide operational support for program projects, including faculty collaboration and student engagement, ensuring timely completion within scope.

Solve content or delivery-related issues using technology tools and ensure ADA compliance and copyright adherence for all media.

Consults with faculty and staff to determine methods for delivery of course content and advocates technology tools and creative processes that advance student engagement and academic learning.

Creates multimedia content, including interactive learning activities, video or audio components. Establishes detailed schedules for individual or multiple courses within a program, and oversees production.

Promote diversity and inclusion in faculty and student engagement to create an environment that values diverse perspectives.

Works in a collaborative manner with other instructional designers, technology staff, faculty, and teaching assistants and demonstrates diplomacy and tact in all communications.

Solves complex content or delivery-related issues through application of technology tools and approaches, and produces production processes for use across teams.

Leads the process to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.

Actively seeks out knowledge of new and emerging learning technologies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Advanced knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.

Advanced knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.

Advanced knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.

Advanced knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems and content creation tools.

Advanced knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies in creative ways.

Advanced knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).

Expert level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.

Thorough knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced understanding of business strategies and market priorities related to online learning and achievement of organizational goals.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $88,900 to $126,400 yearly ($7,408.33 to $10,533.33 monthly). This position is FLSA Exempt and paid monthly.
