Position Vacancy Announcement
Position:
This position will report to the Deputy CTO. The purpose of this position is to lead in the system administration of all technologies associated with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity (DR-BC) including, but not limited to, virtualization, cloud, storage, backup & disaster recovery. This position will be a key contributor to the development, maintenance, and testing of all components of the SURS Disaster Recovery Plan and Business Continuity Plan (DRP-BCP), identifying requirements and resources necessary to build resiliency into the SURS infrastructure and recovery strategies and techniques that would contribute to the successful restoration of SURS critical services in the event of a disaster. As part of the Infrastructure & Operations team within IT, this individual will assist in the development of standards and policies that contribute to risk reduction, mitigation, and remediation, therefore advancing SURS' security posture. This individual will also be responsible for the development of all documentation associated with disaster recovery test & evaluation.

Main Duties
Strategy & Planning
Develop and establish disaster recovery procedures, including development and update of related documentation, for the restoration of mission-critical infrastructure components and business applications in the event of natural disasters, technical failures, power outages, and human interference. Manage and coordinate all aspects of actual recovery plan implementation and efforts, including initial emergency response, recovery procedures, and business resumption processes. Develop, implement, maintain, and oversee enforcement of policies, procedures and associated plans for disaster recovery administration and business continuity based on industry-standard best practices.
Operations Management
Ensure the preservation of critical information, data, or media through monitoring and verification that all physical, virtual, and off-site backup processes have completed successfully. Conduct disaster recovery (DR) tests on an annual basis or as mandated by compliance with state policies. Coordinate with security operations team to ensure all systems and subsystems associated with DR-BC are regularly updated, patched, or configured with applicable fixes to minimize vulnerabilities and ensure resiliency. Work with infrastructure system administrators to coordinate a strategic update path to address obsolescence before technology reaches end of life to ensure all systems and subsystems stay up to date and are properly supported.
Acquisition
Contribute to procurement and negotiation efforts with vendors, contractors, and other outsources resources for any product, services, and support related to DR-BC technology.
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.
2+ years of experience as an admin overseeing Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity or Virtualization platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Advanced knowledge of server, PC hardware, Windows and Mac OS, networking essentials, software tools including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite (M365, O365) and Azure. Knowledge of backup and recovery technologies and techniques including but not limited to physical tape backup, virtual tape backup, and off-site data replication and recovery. Knowledge of storage area network (SAN) administration and configuration. Ability to translate and create network topology diagrams using tools such as Visio. Ability to create system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and contribute to knowledge base articles, training, and presentation materials.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with server hardware and virtual machine (VM) configuration. Network and internet administration, security, and troubleshooting experience. Sound information security foundation including server and endpoint protection. Enterprise server and operating system management and deployment, including patch and bug fix application. Willingness to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs. A keen eye for detail, accuracy, and completeness.
Position Information
This is a full-time position is based in Champaign, IL. During the initial 12-month training period, fully in-office workdays may be required. After successful completion of the initial training period. this position may transition to a hybrid role. The starting salary range for this position is $90,269 - $101,553. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
