Assistant Kids Designer

Requirements & Responsibilities
• 1-3 years of experience.
• A degree and/or relevant experience in apparel design or product development (not textile, surface, or technical design).
• Experience in Kids categories (infant, toddler, big girls, and/or tween) is preferred but not required.
• Strong CAD skills are essential.
• Prior experience in product development (PD) is helpful but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in Adobe - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Excel is required.
• A solid foundational understanding of linesheets and techpacks is important.
• Strong communication skills, as the role involves working with overseas partners.
• Previous experience with overseas teams and vendors is a plus.
• Must be highly organized and attentive to detail.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fabrics.
• Responsible for monitoring and managing fabric development calendars and grids.
• Will purchase original samples and coordinate shipping to the China-based Development team.
• Manage a fabric library of core fabrics that align with costing criteria.
• Assist the Sr. Designer with tasks such as shipping packages to overseas vendors, tracking samples, and maintaining organization.
• Support preliminary design research and create presentation boards for meetings.
• Conduct seasonal trend research to help guide design decisions and maintain market relevance.
Ideal to have:
• InDesign and Miro Board experience.
• High taste-level or good eye for building mood boards.
• Good merchandising/business/collection development skills.
• Good eye for print/pattern pairings (collection development).
• Kids experience in infant, toddler, big girls, and/or tween with experience sketching a variety of categories.
• Familiar with aspirational kids brands-international and domestic (basically any brand on Smallable or Maisonette).
• Good understanding of CPSC children's apparel safety guidelines.
